Helping Children Build Skills for Everyday Life

Every child develops at their own pace. When a child is having difficulty with movement, coordination, fine motor skills, sensory processing, feeding, or other everyday activities, pediatric therapy can provide individualized support.

At Good Beginnings, our pediatric therapists work with families to understand each child’s strengths, challenges, and goals. Therapy is designed around the child’s needs and the activities that matter most at home, at school, and in the community.

Our Falls Church clinic provides access to multiple pediatric therapy services, making it possible for families to receive support for different areas of development in one practice.

What Can Pediatric Therapy Help With?

Families seek pediatric therapy for many different reasons. A child does not need to have a specific diagnosis to benefit from an evaluation. If you have concerns about your child’s development, movement, daily activities, feeding, or participation, talking with a pediatric therapist can help you understand whether therapy may be appropriate.

  • Developmental delays. Difficulty reaching expected developmental milestones.
  • Fine motor difficulties. Difficulty with activities involving hands, fingers, and coordination.
  • Sensory processing differences. Difficulty responding to or participating in activities involving sensory experiences.
  • Toe walking. Persistent toe walking or concerns about a child’s walking pattern.
  • Gross motor difficulties. Challenges with walking, running, jumping, climbing, or other movement skills.
  • Balance & coordination. Difficulty maintaining balance or coordinating movements.
  • Feeding difficulties. Challenges with foods, textures, eating routines, or mealtimes.
  • Torticollis. Limited neck movement or positioning concerns in infants and young children.

A Pediatric-Focused Approach

Choosing a therapy provider for your child is an important decision. At Good Beginnings, our services are centered around the needs of infants, children, and teens.

Our therapists consider how a child’s skills affect everyday participation rather than focusing only on a single difficulty. Depending on your child’s needs, therapy may address movement, coordination, sensory processing, fine motor skills, feeding, strength, or other functional skills.

We also recognize that parents and caregivers are an important part of a child’s progress. Our goal is to work with families and provide practical strategies that can support a child’s development outside of therapy sessions.

Good Beginnings OT is truly exceptional. Our therapist has been absolutely wonderful—knowledgeable, patient, and incredibly supportive of our child’s growth. We’ve seen meaningful progress, and our child genuinely looks forward to every session. I also want to highlight their billing department, who went above and beyond to help us navigate insurance. They were persistent, communicative, and truly worked with us to get everything approved. Their dedication made a stressful process so much easier.

Lauren has been a charm and very kind and easy to work with, that does not mean the workout routines will be easy though. Great TP and charming personality my daughter loved to work with. She was introduced by Kelly, who worked with our daughter for a couple of years and followed her from MD to VA location.

Good Beginngs gets 5 stars from me. They did a very thorough evaluation of our child, including a plan for the future and addressed all of our questions and concerns. Our child was very happy and engaged during the play-based evaluation. The staff was very helpful from start to finish.

Facility is clean and well equipped, the staff are nice, and they were able to quickly get me an appointment for an evaluation and then recurring appointments for occupational therapy. My daughter’s therapist Sara is kind and patient and keeps us informed on her progress and activities. Great experience so far.

I've had a wonderful experience with Good Beginnings Physical Therapy! Dr. Kirsten is extremely professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely cares about her patients progress. She takes the time to explain everything and creates a personalized plan that really works. Also Melissa from the Billing department is incredibly helpful, responsive, and always willing to go the extra mile. Whether it's last-minute paperwork or a quick clarification, she’s there to help and responds to emails even outside regular hours. The level of dedication from both Dr. Kirsten and Melissa is unmatched. I truly appreciate their support and professionalism. Highly recommend Good Beginnings!

We were very grateful for our experience with Good Beginnings and Dr. Amy who worked diligently with my daughter to overcome her GI issues. After struggling with doctors and medicines for almost a year, PT was the missing link. Dr. Amy made PT fun for my daughter who very much looked forward to her appointments and doing her "homework" in between sessions. I also appreciated Dr. Amy looking around corners at how to prevent future issues rather than just treat the issue at hand. We found the scheduling process to be accommodating when we had to call and reschedule due to sickness with 24+ hour notice. The billing process via email was also smooth and reflected insurance payments. The lack of a waiting room took a bit to get used to, but having several kiddos waiting in the hallway before their appointment is probably better for germ prevention than having them all run around a busy waiting room. While I hope my daughter won't have more issues requiring physical therapy in the future, if she does, I would not hesitate to go back to Dr. Amy.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I know if my child needs OT or PT? If you’re wondering, it’s usually worth checking. We often tell families that you don’t need to have it all figured out, that’s what the evaluation is for. Whether it’s motor skills, feeding, coordination, sensory differences, or something that just doesn’t feel quite right, we can help guide you.

  • Do you offer after-school or weekend appointments?  We do offer some after-school times, though they tend to fill quickly. If daytime is an option, it often allows for more flexibility. In certain situations, we may also offer weekend or alternative scheduling options.

  • Do you handle insurance for us? Yes, we handle benefit checks, submit claims, and manage the process for you. Insurance can be confusing, and we try to make it as simple and hands-off as possible for families.
